Hope Reads

Hope Reads is Hope Wanted’s Literacy Advocacy and Resource Initiative.  This program emphasizes the importance of family reading partnerships.  We teach how to create a culture of literacy in the home by promoting family reading practices.  Additionally, Hope Wanted serves to promote awareness and provide support for literacy to program participants.

Our focus is on the importance of literacy for children and adults, and we stress family literacy.  We make this possible through a number of activities linking community members to literacy resources.  The activities are sponsored and hosted by the Hope Wanted organization in conjunction with our many literacy partners.

Data has proven that the most important activity supporting reading success is reading aloud within the family.  The benefits of reading aloud at home include:
• Language skills
• Vocabulary building
• Critical thinking skills
• Motor skills
• Listening skills
• Encouraged literacy
• Quality time with family
